Class 3: Reflection & Response (Sept.4)
This class will be devoted to completing the reflection questions and starting the Literary Response to Jackson's "The Lottery". All of the documents necessary for this class have already been posted / distributed. Make sure you have the following documents on hand:

Class 4: Response & Media Minute (Sept.6)
I will be verifying that you completed the REFLECTION QUESTIONS from last class.
Depending on where you left off last class, we will be beginning (or continuing) the rough draft of the literary response on "The Lottery".

Class 5: Final Response (Sept.10)
The first half of the class will be devoted to completing your rough draft. The second half of class we will be working on EDITING with your peers. Once editing is complete, you will begin typing up your final draft.
Next class we will be working on MLA citation and formatting.

Class 6: MLA citation and Response Submission (Sept.11)

We will be working on MLA citation. I will post a PowerPoint on MLA in text citation and bibliography. We will then start our Final Drafts of the response, they will be completed at home.
Also, I will be collecting your REFLECTION QUESTIONS today. If you were absent, make sure you hand in the reflection Hilroy notebook as soon as possible.

Class 8: Animal Farm Book Distribution (Sept.16)
This class, I returned the corrected reflection questions. If you would like to resubmit, you have two weeks as of today (September 16th) to do so. Make sure you resubmit with the original assignment. It would be best if you did the resubmission in your Reflection Hilroy Notebook.
Also, the Animal Farm novels were distributed. By the beginning of the next class, you should have up to Chapter 2 read.

Class 9: Animal Farm Reading and Comprehension (Sept.17)

I will be going over some of the content that will be on the quiz on Tuesday (the 24th) It is important that you took notes on the PowerPoint from the lesson on September 13th.
We will also be reading Animal Farm and discussing some character comprehension/ reflection questions.

Class 10: Reading (Sept.19)
During this class, we discussed the elements that might show up on the quiz and we read the novel together in class. Also, I came around to check if the Reflection Questions (homework) was completed. They will be collected when the Responses are redistributed (most likely on Monday, Sept. 30th).

Over the next few classes, we will be working on a group assignment. You will have to briefly present your answers in a group when you have completed the activity. If you missed this class, see me to find out which group you will be working with. I will post a list of the groups after class.

Class 16-17 : Animal Farm Presentations - Questions 4 & 7 (Oct.16-17)
This class was spent presenting questions 4 and 7 from the group activity. You have to choice as to who presents for your group. Be sure you are all on the same page, as you will share a mark. If there was any unfair contributors in your group, please see me with your concerns.
Reminder: Question 4 should be presented as a political speech depicting a point of view. Question 7 includes the presentation of points supporting Napoleon and Animalism as well as the presentation and explanation of you visual.

Classes 18-19: Response Resubmissions (Oct.17-21)
The next few classes will be spent going over the responses on "The Lottery". There was a paper handout distributed. If you missed these classes, please be sure to see me about this handout. It is important because it contains examples of levels 4 and 5 responses. They can be used as reference when you attempt to fix your own response. Everyone is expected to resubmit, you will technically have the full two weeks to get the resubmission into me. However, sooner is always better.

Class 20 : Reading and Media Minute (Oct. 23)
During these two classes, we watched part one of the Vice Special on North Korea. Also, we started reading chapter 9 of Animal Farm. We engaged in discussion on the novel and topics including communism, dictatorships, greed and propaganda.

Class 21-22: End of Animal Farm and The Analytical Essay (Oct. 25-29)

This class will begin with finishing the novel in class... then we will move on to the analytical essay. The next few classes will be devoted to going over the appropriate structure and content of this essay style. We will be doing extensive work on this topic so please do not forget to bring your binder, novel and POST-ITS to class.

This class will be spent editing the rough drafts we completed over the past 3 classes. It is important that you critically engage in this activity in order to produce quality work. You will be filling out the checklist provided above. We will also be going over the analytical / literary rubric (also available above).

Reference the image (list of topics) and the "vocab-grammar-sentences" PowerPoint file under Class 31. We did some review of sentence structure and variety, then spent the rest of class of independent study.

The class watched TedTalks in preparation for the mid term exam. Each of you will be writing a response to the Ted Talk of your choice. The documents above include the codes and conventions of a speech and an activity in preparation for the response. The codes and conventions should be kept as reference in your binder.
The Ted Talk Activity will be due on Thursday, Jan. 16th.
